Redevelopment work at Kent begins to take shape
As Kent County Cricket Club’s slow start to the season continues, the redevelopment work taking place at their Canterbury St Lawrence Ground is picking up speed.
With the brand new floodlights now in place, shown in the picture below, the ground has taken a big step towards the dream possibility of hosting more international matches. These floodlights will be tested for the first time in the University Varsity match between the University of Kent and Canterbury Christ Church University on May 13 2011.
The work on the Les Ames Stand and the Chiesman Pavilion is also continuing, with the work from that part of the redevelopment hoped to be ready for June 18 2011, the first floodlit Twenty20 fixture for Kent of the season.
There are a number of different parts of the work already complete and up and running though, including the Cowdrey building and the new players’ Dressing Rooms.

The work is still causing some on-going problems though. Kent’s well documented money troubles look set to continue until long after the work is complete, as the club struggle with life on and off the field.
Around the ground, there is also a big problem with parking, as the facilities are still in the process of being completed. Parking during matches is still unavailable in the ground, and so patrons are advised to park at Simon Langton Girls Grammar School and either take the short walk to the ground, or take one of the shuttle bus services to and from the ground from the car park.
For a slideshow of pictures showing the continuing development of the ground, watch the video below.
