Christ Church prepares for final Varsity clash
Varsity may have finished a few weeks ago, but there is one sport where the bragging rights are still up for grabs.
“We will be ready.” So says Canterbury Christ Church University cricket captain James Alder, as he and his side prepare for the final Varsity match of 2011 between Christ Church and the University of Kent.
The match will be taking place at Kent County Cricket Club’s St Lawrence Ground for the first time, and will be the first match to be held under the ground’s brand new floodlights.
James said: “It’s the first for the cricket club, I’m not sure we’ve actually played them outdoors before so to play them at the Kent stadium’s going to be a really good night.”
The skipper wants to make sure that his team make the most of their experience though, saying: “A lot of the lads haven’t played at a big stadium like that before… we’ve got some good players knocking about, it’s just getting the lads used to fielding under floodlights.”
